Over the past twelve years, the Highlands Motoring Festival has grown significantly in size, interest, and stature. This is due to the efforts of everyone involved, including volunteers from leadership through day workers, participants, business sponsors, spectators, and of course the Town of Highlands.
Due to this success, for the past few years it has become impossible to accommodate everyone who wishes to enter their automobile into the juried Saturday “Cars in the Park” show field. This is in spite of having added additional spaces the past two years. Because of this, and faced with the possibility that commercial redevelopment adjacent to Kelsey-Hutchison Park may eliminate a portion of our show field, the selection process for the Saturday, June 13, 2020 “Cars in the Park” must become more structured.
Accordingly, while there will be some invited featured cars, most owners will submit an application through the HMF web site, to include information such as description, history, photographs, etc. From the information provided, the HMF Selection Committee will notify applicants as to their status. The full details, and application process, are expected to become accessible in November 2019. An expected by-product of this more rigorous approach will be to increase the overall quality of the show field.
HMF 2020’s second car show, “High Octane on Main” on Sunday June 14, will have plenty of capacity and is open to any interesting vehicle; no registration, no entry fee, and no judging.
Also, in response to strong demand, the 2020 “One Lap of the Mountains” driving tour will be expanded with a second day of driving tours and a vintage only tour group traveling a shorter route with a support vehicle.
HMF has undergone constant change over its thirteen-year history; with amazing success. These most recent changes should be viewed positively and will continue the trend of continuous improvement. Thank you for your continuing support. Stay tuned to this website for details.
